Odoo 20 already opens records in a new browser tab when you hold Ctrl (Cmd on macOS) or use the middle mouse button. This app lets you control that behaviour for the whole database and for each user. It also adds one thing Odoo does not do: opening the lines of a form (one2many and many2many lists) in a new tab.
Key Features
- Switch Ctrl/Cmd + click on or off — Keep Odoo's new tab on Ctrl/Cmd + click (the default), or make it open in the current tab. This applies to list rows, kanban cards, view buttons, smart buttons and many2one links.
- Switch middle click on or off — Keep the new tab on a mouse-wheel click (the default), or ignore middle clicks on records and buttons.
- Lines of a form in a new tab — When switched on, Ctrl/Cmd + click or middle click on a saved line of a one2many or many2many list opens that record in a new tab, instead of a dialog or inline editing. Plain clicks work as before.
- Per-user choice — Each user can follow the database setting or choose otherwise in his own Preferences, for each of the three behaviours.
- Safe with unsaved forms — Nothing is saved for you. Unsaved changes stay in the current tab. A line that is new or changed and not yet saved opens as usual, with a short message.
Benefits
- Users who find accidental new tabs confusing can switch them off for themselves
- Power users open order lines, invoice lines or related records side by side
- No change for anyone until a setting or a preference is changed
Ideal For
- Teams that review many documents at once
- Companies that want one consistent navigation behaviour for all users
- Users who prefer to stay in one tab
Technical Highlights
- Builds on Odoo's own Ctrl/Cmd + click and middle click handling, nothing re-implemented
- Settings in Settings > General Settings > Navigation Settings; preferences on the user
- New tabs keep the breadcrumb trail (list > document > line)
- Depends on base_setup and web only; Community and Enterprise
